On 20 August, PPP Senator Gianchan Tweeted an image of a road surrounded by green hills with the caption “Beauty of Thar.” The Senator, who heads the party’s Tharparkar district chapter, tagged the official Twitter accounts of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto as well as Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
However, a quick Google Reverse Image Search revealed that the picture is not of Thar, it was actually taken in Kollengode, Palakkad in India.

Pakistan’s arid Thar region has faced a range of challenges; including but not limited to water scarcity, food shortages, inadequate health facilities, and general lack of basic infrastructure. Misleading images such as the one Tweeted by Senator Gianchan have been shared in the past by PPP officials in order to promote a more positive image of the party’s governance of Sindh.
