Claim: Natasha Danish Iqbal, who is responsible for the accident on Karsaz Road, is on the board of directors of Metro Power Group.

Fact: The culprit in the Karsaz road accident is not on Metro Power Group’s board of directors.

Following the accident on Karsaz road in Karachi on 19 August, a user shared a screenshot of the board of directors from Metro Power’s website on X (archive) captioned: “Natasha Iqbal, wife of Danish Iqbal. Metro Power. Another IPP. Nothing will happen.”

Similar claims were shared on other social media platforms including a post on Facebook that was captioned: “According to the lawyer of Ms. Natasha Iqbal. she is mentally ill.

Ms. Natasha holds the following positions in following companies:

Chief Executive

Metro Capital (Private) Limited

JSDN Electric Limited

Director

Swift Storage & Services (Private) Limited

Gul Ahmed Bio Films Limited

Gul Ahmed CBMC Glass Company Limited

Metro Power Company Limited

Metro Solar Power Limited

Metro Property Network (Private) Limited

Metro Storage & Services (Private) Limited”

What happened?

On 19 August, a white SUV, driven by a woman named Natasha, lost control and collided with a motorcycle, another vehicle, and several pedestrians, before coming to a stop on the service road.

“The female driver, who was apparently under the influence, attempted to escape but was nabbed by bystanders. People also filmed the woman and shared the clip online, as the incident caused outrage”, added the Pakobserver report.

The accident resulted in the death of a father and daughter on a motorcycle and left three others injured, according to Dawn.

Following the incident, CCTV footage was shared on social media, along with the alleged perpetrator’s name and identity. Social media users identified the woman as Natasha Danish Iqbal, the wife of well-known businessman Danish Iqbal.

According to an article (archive) published by Arab News Pakistan on 21 August, “The vehicle’s alleged driver is the CEO of Metro Capital (Private) Limited and JSDN Electric Limited, two companies owned by her husband under the Metro Power business group”.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reviewed the companies’ websites and identified Natasha Iqbal on the board of directors of Metro Power. While the page has since been deleted, it is archived here. This Natasha Iqbal is not the individual involved in the car accident. Instead, Natasha Iqbal on the board of Metro Power is Danish Iqbal’s sister, who happens to share the same name as his wife.

Another X user posted the claim along with the screenshot (archive) of the website with the caption: “Intelligent enough to be director at metro-power(IPP) board, dumb enough not to drive!”

In response to this post, many users clarified that the woman in the photograph is Danish Iqbal’s sister, not his wife, who was responsible for the accident. Their replies can be seen here, here, here,  and here. Archived here, here, here, and here

Based on the CCTV footage of the individual involved in the accident and older photos of her that have surfaced online, it is clear that the two women bear little resemblance and are, in fact, different people.

Virality:

The claim was shared on X here, here, here, and here. Archived here, here, here, and here.

On Facebook, it was shared here, here, and here.

It was also shared on Threads here, here, here, and here.

Conclusion: While available evidence suggests that Natasha Iqbal on Metro Power’s board is not the same individual involved in the Karsaz Road accident, the deletion of company pages and limited visual comparisons make it difficult to confirm this with absolute certainty. However, the lack of resemblance between the two women, alongside archived information, strongly indicates that the claim is false.
