Claim: Kate Middleton cried after a recent announcement from the British royal family.

Fact: There is no evidence of the Princess of Wales crying recently after an announcement from the royal family.

On 24 June, Threads user @nostalgicshots2 posted  (archived) a photo of the princess with her husband, Prince William, along with a caption that reads, “tears keep flowing down Princess Kate Middleton’s face 😭 The announcement from the Royal House came just a short while ago 💔 More details in Comments!”

In a comment on the post, the user linked to an article reporting on Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. “Middleton’s health journey has been marked by both public scrutiny and private struggles,” the report reads.

The post implies that Middleton was photographed in tears due to her medical issues.

Fact or Fiction?

The article shared in the comments of the post in question, titled  “The Courageous Journey of Kate Middleton: Navigating Health Challenges from Childhood to Cancer” discusses  several of Middleton’s  health issues over the years. The article includes the video of the Princess of Wales making her cancer announcement and asking for privacy while she underwent treatment.

However, the princess did not cry throughout the video. Unlike the post claiming that tears were flowing down Kate’s face, following an announcement from the “Royal House,” the article in the comment ironically does not support the claim in the caption of the post.

Soch Fact Check scoured social media handles and websites of the royal family for any announcement regarding the Princess of Wales’s health, especially during the last week. The X handles, @KensingtonRoyal, which shares news about the royal couple, @RoyalFamily, and their official website, made no such announcement that may have made Kate cry.

Moreover, keyword searches did not yield any news reports about the Princess of Wales crying recently.

The image of the princess with her husband, attached to the Threads post, shows her looking somber, but not crying.

Soch Fact Check also conducted a Google Reverse Image Search of the picture and found it was taken on 21 November 2023, when the royal couple attended “a ceremonial welcome for The President and the First Lady of the Republic of Korea at Horse Guards Parade.” The Associated Press File photo, ninth in the portfolio, clearly shows Kate is not crying at the event. Moreover, it predates the cancer announcement made on 22 March 2024, ruling out any connection to her current health problem.

Virality

The post was liked 195 times on Threads.

Conclusion: A claim about Kate Middleton crying after an announcement from the royal palace is false. There is no recent evidence of the Princess of Wales crying publicly.
