Claim: A screenshot of a tweet, seemingly posted by politician Jahangir Tareen went viral right before PTI’s long march. The tweet, addressed to Imran Khan, warns him that political circumstances are different than those in 2104.
Fact: Jahangir Tareen never tweeted anything of the sort. The tweet was sent out by an account whose bio states “Jahangir Khan Tareen Fan Page.”
Fact or Fiction?
A screenshot of a tweet that was posted by @JahangirTareenK viral right before PTI’s long march. The tweet reads:
“خان صاحب آپ کو بتا دوں یہ 2104 والے حالات نہیں اور نا ہی چوہدری نثار صاحب وزیر داخلہ ہیں جن کے ساتھ جہاز میں 6 گھنٹے میٹنگ ہوئی تھی”
[Khan Sahib let me tell you that the circumstances are not like 2104, nor is Chaudhary Nisar Sahib interior minister who (you) had a meeting for 6 hours in the plane].
Some users believed the tweet was actually posted by Jahangir Tareen as the fan account used the same image as the profile picture of Tareen’s official verified account.
The screenshot is, in fact, of this tweet made by an account that claims to be a fan account of Tareen. Tareen’s official verified account @JahangirKTareen can be accessed here.
Virality
The tweet from the “fan account” went viral and garnered 626 retweets and 2,722 likes. It was shared widely on Whatsapp while examples of posts on Facebook carrying it can be seen here, here, here and here.
Soch Fact Check also conducted a CrowdTangle analysis to check the virality of the post. Following keywords were searched over the period of 30 days from 30 April – 30 May.

The first keyword received 500 interactions across 30 posts on Facebook
The second key term garnered 200 interactions across 6 posts on Facebook.
Tareen’s verified account tweeted last on 29 December 2021 and remains dormant after that.
Conclusion: Jahangir Tareen did not tweet a warning to Imran Khan before PTI’s recent long march. The tweet in question was posted by an account that uses Jahangir Tareen’s image and name but claims to be a fan account. Posts attributing the tweet to Tareen himself are false.
