Claim: Disney is producing a new film called “Two Girls ONE CUP”, the poster of which has already been released.
Fact: The image was created using artificial intelligence, as confirmed by its creator. Disney does not have any such titles under production, or scheduled for release.
On 26 September 2023, Soch Fact Check received a WhatsApp message containing the poster of a film which was apparently in the works at Disney. It shows two feminine figures holding a cup together with the text “Two Girls ONE CUP” above them.
The following caption accompanies the image:
“‼️🚨BREAKING🚨‼️ Really not sure about Disney’s new live action pretty sure they need to change that name…”
The text “Two Girls ONE CUP” in the poster refers to “Hungry Bitches,” the infamous 2007 Brazilian fetish pornographic film produced by MFX Media. It featured two lesbian women and is colloquially known as, “2 Girls 1 Cup.” It is “the most disgusting and offensive video ever to go viral”, according to The New York Times (archive).
Fact or Fiction?
Soch Fact Check observed several errors in the poster that indicate it was created using artificial intelligence (AI); some of these are listed below and identified in a visual later.
- The Disney logo is illegible and appears to spell out “DILTNFP”
- The W in the word “Two” looks like it has been created by joining two Vs, which are joined with an unusual line and change in gradient
- The brown-haired character has a glitched double elbow on their right side
- The thumb of the brown-haired character is blending into their jacket on their right side
- The sleeves of the brown-haired character are of two different designs with the right arm appearing thicker as well
- The left hand of the brown-haired character is in the wrong position to hold the cup, as the fingers should be behind the cup and not be visible but they appear to be twisted unnaturally
- The right hand of the red-haired character is merging into the cup
- The left hand of the red-haired character is merging into their abdomen
It is widely recognised that melting or misshapen hands are an infamous identifier of images created using artificial intelligence.
We also observed a faint watermark on the poster spelling out the words “Dark Asylum,” when we Googled the keywords it led us to the Facebook page ‘Dark Asylum Radio’, which included a link to their website.
We played with ‘Levels’ and ‘Curves’ on Adobe Photoshop and brought ‘Saturation’ to zero to highlight the watermark.
According to the website, “Dark Asylum is the community for the alternative culture, bringing together DJs, dancers, artists, models, bands, clothing designers, writers, poets, and everyone else on the scene. Dark Asylum was founded in 2000 first as a dark music industrial radio station, evolving into a full-blown social network for the alternative subculture in 2012.”
When Soch Fact Check reached out to Dark Asylum Radio to inquire about the viral image, they confirmed that Disney had nothing to do with the poster. “This was [a] joke [and] we have removed the post but [posts on] other pages have gone viral,” they told us via Facebook Messenger.
We were able to find the link to the original post but it has now been deleted; an archived version can be seen here. The post’s caption read, “Really not sure about this pretty sure they need to change that name”; however, it does not mention if it is a live-action film or an animated one.
Moreover, if it was an authentic Disney film poster, it would not have a watermark on it.
Additionally, we did not find any such title listed in the ‘upcoming movies’ section on websites like IMDb (page 1 and page 2), Screen Rant, Rotten Tomatoes or Insider.
Soch Fact Check also reached out to Disney for a comment but we did not receive a response as of publishing time. This article will be updated in the event of any further communication.
