Fact: A fake 24 News bulletin falsely claimed that bottles of alcohol were discovered in Rizivi’s car.
On 14 July 2023, screenshots of an apparent 24 News bulletin went viral online. According to the images, bottles of alcohol were found in Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s leader Saad Rizvi’s car.
Fact or Fiction?
Through a reverse image search, Soch Fact Check found that the bulletin was not originally shared by 24 News. We also searched the following key terms on various search engines and found a clarification published by the news publication the very next day:
- “سعد رزوی”
- “شراب”
- “بوتلیں”
- “گاڑی”
The article explains that news of alcohol found in Saad Rizvi’s car is false. Moreover, there is no video evidence of this incident online.
“[Translates excerpts] A fake screenshot of 24 News is being used on social media platforms. It claims that alcohol was found in the car of Saad Rizvi, the leader of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. This screenshot is fake and no such news was ever reported, made, or published.
Many of our viewers and users have also confirmed this after investigation – the institution condemns the cheap propaganda by spreading this fake news and reserves the right to take legal action against the elements behind this reprehensible act.”
The article was also followed verbatim as script and announced on the 24 News TV channel as well.
