Claim: Ali Amin Gandapur accused Bushra Bibi of corruption and collecting extortion money in Peshawar.

Fact: The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not accuse Bushra Bibi of corruption. The viral video was shared out of context from a longer recording, which shows Gandapur condemning wives who do not question their husbands about the source of their income, adding that they fail their responsibility as a mother. There is no direct reference to Bushra Bibi in his speech.

X user @MadihaShah_adv shared a clip (archive) of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delivering a speech, writing, “بشری بی بی اور علی آمین کے درمیان جنگ شدت اختیار کر گئی ۔

[Translated from Urdu: The war between Bushra Bibi and Ali Amin intensified.

I am not ready to consider the corrupt Bushra Bibi as a mother who is sitting in Peshawar to extort money.

I tell the bureaucracy not to pay any bribes. This is not Punjab, Gogi Raj will not work here]

In the video, Gandapur says, “Jab meri biwi mujh se yeh nahi poochay gi ke tum yeh paisa kahan se laye ho, tum yeh gaari kahan se laye ho, tum ne yeh bangla kahan se liya hai. Tou kia yeh woh waali maa hai jo apnay bachon ko khilaye gi. Wohi maa jis ko pata bhi hai ke yeh meri amdan se ziada hai. [When my wife doesn’t ask me where I got this money from, where I got this car from, or where I got this house from, then is she the kind of mother who will feed her children? The same mother who knows that this is beyond my income.]

He further added, “Tou kia yeh woh waali maa hai jis ke paaon ke neechay janat hai. Bilkul nahi hai. Mein tou nahi maanta. Mein kisi aisi aurat ko maa maan’nay ko tayyar nahi hoon jis ke paaon ke neechay jannat hai aur corruption ko promote kar rahi hai.” [Is she then the mother with paradise beneath her feet? Absolutely not. I don’t believe that. I’m not ready to consider any woman who promotes corruption a ‘mother’ with paradise beneath her feet.]

Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Khan

Since PTI’s November 2024 protests, conflicting reports have emerged of an alleged dispute between Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur and Khan’s wife,  widely known as Bushra ‘Bibi’. On 25 November, The Express Tribune reported that the chief minister had an altercation with Bushra Bibi on the eve of PTI’s protest at D-Chowk. According to the report, the disagreement occurred in the morning when Gandapur planned to leave Peshawar to lead the protest march. Citing sources, the report stated that Bibi also intended to lead the march. It added that Gandapur opposed Bibi’s plans, arguing that she had no involvement in politics. However, Oon 29 November, Gandapur clarified to the media in Peshawar that there were no disputes between him and Bushra Bibi.

According to a Business Recorder report, earlier, Bushra Bibi had claimed she was left alone at D-Chowk during a critical moment of the protest on 24 November. She said that at 12:30 am, she was alone in her car with no one aware of her location. Despite the situation, she stayed because the party founder hadn’t instructed them to leave. However, Ali Amin Gandapur asserted that he was with her throughout the rally, the report stated. He clarified that if Bushra Bibi was pointing at someone else, it was her personal opinion, but he was with her at all times.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check reverse-searched keyframes of the viral video and found that an extended footage of Gandapur’s speech was shared by multiple YouTube channels, including Abb Takk News. We reviewed the video, shared by Faraz Ahmed Mughal on YouTube, titled “KPK CM Ali Amin Gandapur | Speech in Peshawar.”

At the beginning of his speech, Gandapur mentioned Anti-Corruption Day before continuing with his remarks. Just before the segment featured in the viral clip, he stated “Humara jo ikhlaqiyaat ka mayaar hai woh nihaiyti low hai usko upar le kar hi nahi ja rahay.” [Translation: Our standard of ethics is extremely low, and we are not improving it.]

The segment beginning at 13:06 is featured in the viral claim. However, upon reviewing the complete speech, it becomes clear that Gandapur did not talk about Bushra Bibi at all. Instead, he generally referred to wives who do not question their husbands on their source of income.

In the complete speech, besides the remarks in the viral video, he added:

“Jannat wali maa koi aur maa hai. Humne woh maa’ein ban’na hai. Humne woh maa’ein produce karni hain ke haram agar le kay aaye tou usko kaho nikal jao idhar se. Na mein khud khaongi na mein apnay bachon ko khanay dungi.”

[Translation: The mother with paradise beneath her feet is a different kind of mother. We need to become that kind of mother. We need to produce mothers who will speak up and say get out of here to the one who brings in ‘haram’ (religiously forbidden income) into the household, (the kind of mother who will say) neither will I eat it myself, nor will I let my children eat it.]

After these remarks, the audience broke into applause. Gandapur did not mention or refer to Bushra Bibi at any point during this speech.

To understand the full context of the speech, we conducted a keyword search and found multiple news reports about Gandapur’s speech on International Anti-Corruption Day. According to one of these reports, published by The News, Gandapur spoke as the chief guest at “a seminar organised by the Information and Public Relations Department and the provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment at Nishtar Hal. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM stated that corruption could only be eliminated when society as a whole starts to view it as a serious moral issue, the report added. He described corruption as a social menace and remarked, “The day we start seeing corruption as a grave issue, its eradication will begin.”

We also conducted a keyword search to determine whether CM Gandapur accused Bushra Bibi of corruption or extortion, but did not find any news reports supporting such claims.

Conclusion: The claim that Ali Amin Gandapur accused Bushra Bibi of corruption in his remarks is false. The video in the claim is an incomplete snippet taken from his speech on International Anti-Corruption Day. His comments were about the broader role mothers can play in battling the issue of corruption and were not aimed at Bushra Bibi personally.
