On 16 March 2023, digital media outlet FHM Pakistan shared a post on Instagram claiming that singer Aima Baig had said in an interview that she had a crush on her brother.
“An old interview video of Aima Baig is taking rounds on social media, where she said that she had a huge crush on her brother who is 7 years older than her,” the post reads.
Soch Fact Check found the claim to be false. Taking to Instagram, the singer called out the outlet for digging in an old video and misquoting her. She posted the original video from the interview to “prove” that she had never said what was reported.
“Click here to see the actual truth, everybody. Although even talking about it is disgusting, they need to know how a false ideology can ruin an entire nation. I demand an apology for such a heinous and vile accusation on me and to erase all these unwanted and peevish posts about this unprofitable and absurd news,” Baig wrote on her Instagram story.
In an old interview on a digital talk show, Rewind with Samina Peerzada, Baig can be heard saying, “I remember my first crush. He was my brother’s friend. I was around 10 years old and my brother is seven years older than me. He was also like a brother to me but I had a crush on him because he has these crystal blue eyes…”
The viral posts misquoted the singer and removed the part where she said her first crush was her brother’s friend.
Baig has sued the outlet for 100 million, demanding a written apology. The court notice she shared on social media stated that FHM Pakistan “attributed an untrue, false, and scandalous statement” to the singer and “spread the fake news” that she had a crush on her elder brother.
