Verdict: Kind of true, kind of false?
On 6 January 2020, the Vice Chancellor of the Lahore University of Management Sciences sent an email to the faculty, staff and students urging them to refer to the university as LUMSU in formal and informal communications in order to capture the “disciplinary growth and comprehensive status” of the institution.
After a day full of online outrage and trolling, the Vice Chancellor sent another email on 7 January 2020 stating that his previous email was “written in good faith to reflect the reality of our 5 Schools that comprise our university. The message was not intended to change the university’s name which remains as the ‘Lahore University of Management Sciences’ and will continue to be used as such.”
Summary: The Lahore University of Management Sciences has not formally changed its name to the Lahore University of Management Sciences University.
