Claim: An image claims to show a Swiss parliamentarian who runs her house by working in a bakery.

Fact: The image shows Licia Ronzulli, an Italian politician and a former Member of the European Parliament who represented The People of Freedom party and the New Forza Italia party in 2009-14.

On 16 February 2023, Retired Major General Javed Aslam Tahir tweeted an image of a woman carrying her child, strapped to her chest and wearing formal business attire and headphones. The accompanying caption claims that the person in the photo is a Swiss MNA who, when was asked by a journalist why she does not hire a nanny to take care of her child, responded by saying that she takes care of her household expenses by working in a bakery so naturally she can not afford to keep a nanny.

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check conducted a reverse image search for this photo and discovered the same woman photographed from a different angle, reported by The Guardian on 24 September 2010 as Licia Ronzulli. The article is about how Licia Ronzulli, an Italian politician and member of the European Parliament, brought her seven-week-old baby to work at the parliament.

A Sky News article in Italian claims that Ronzulli joined the Board of Directors of Fiera di Milano, a fairground and exhibition center in Italy.

The bio for Licia Ronzulli’s official Twitter profile says, “Vitty’s mom. Senator of the Republic. President of the Senators.”

Licia Ronzulli, the woman in the image, is not a Swiss parliamentarian who works in a bakery to feed her family.

Virality
