Claim: A video on social media shows “Sheikhs of Dubai” celebrating after India won the T20 match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022.

Fact: The claim is false. The video is doctored, and the celebration clip is from a football match in Kuwait in September 2020. It is not related to the cricket match between Pakistan and India.

On 30 August 2022, a Facebook user shared a video with the caption “The Sheikhs of Dubai jump with joy on the winning shot by Hardik Pandya. This may be a sad visual for few Indians and lot of Pakistanis.”

The 19-second video shows visuals of the recent India-Pakistan cricket match as well as Arab men excitedly jumping in a stadium. The video went viral after India won over Pakistan in the T20 Asia Cup match on Sunday 28 August 2022. Hardik Pandya hit a boundary to secure India’s win, which is shown in the video.

Fact or Fiction?

To investigate the claim, Soch Fact Check conducted an InVID video analysis. We broke the video down into key frames and ran them through a reverse image search to find the video’s origin.

The results turned up a Twitter post published on 22 September 2020 by Khalaf Enezi, a journalist and sports reporter from Kuwait. The tweet’s Arabic-language caption translated into English reads; “I turned on the phone at the last minute and pointed the camera at Aziz Ashour, president of the Al-Arabi Club.”

The original 44-second video shows men in traditional Arab clothing celebrating and jumping in the stand of a stadium.

A further search showed that the video is from a football match in the Kuwait Emir Cup 2020 final where the Al-Arabi cub defeated the Al-Kuwait club on 21 September 2020. The video was uploaded a day after the match.

Keyword search also showed similar visuals in a video published by the ‘ATV Kuwait’ news website on 22 September 2020. This news channel confirmed it as the celebration visuals of Al-Arabi Sports Club President Abdulaziz Ahmed Ashour.

Virality

Soch Fact Check conducted a CrowdTangle analysis for the video in question but nothing could be found

An organic search on Facebook showed that the video with the same claim is shared here, here, here, and here between 29 August 2022 – 2 September 2022.

The video was also shared on Twitter by the verified account of Ravi Rai, a writer, and producer from India which he later deleted. It can still be found here, here, and here on Twitter.

Conclusion: The video of Arab men celebrating and jumping in joy after India won the T20 cricket match against Pakistan is doctored. The clip from a 2020 football match has been stitched with India’s winning shot against Pakistan.
