Claim: A video shows a Palestinian child trapped under rubble after Israel’s attack.

Fact: The claim is misleading as the video is from Syria, not Palestine. It actually shows a child playing in her home, peeking through a hole in the wall and not stuck under the rubble.

On 26 October 2024, an X (formerly Twitter) account posted a video (archive) with the caption:

ملبے تلے دبا فلسطینی بچہ امداد کا منتظر ہے

کیسا دلخراش منظر ہے، مگر عالمی برادری اس پر خاموش ہے

Translated: [A Palestinian child buried under the rubble is waiting for help. What a heartbreaking scene, but the international community is silent about it.]

Fact or Fiction?

Soch Fact Check investigated the claim after seeing the community note on the X post which suggested that the little girl in the video is not from Palestine.

A reverse search on the video keyframes led to an X post from 26 October 2024. The post by Tal Hagin, who works for an Israel-based organisation combating misinformation, Fake Reporter, shows the same child from different angles in another  video. The post’s caption reads, “This doesn’t showcase a Palestinian child trapped under rubble. More videos, uploaded by the same person showcase the girl was not under rubble but looking through a hole in the wall. Additionally, nothing on the account indicates the origin of the mother and child.”

A further search on Google led to the TikTok account that first uploaded the video on 25 October 2024 and also posted another video of the child from different angles playing in a house and looking through a hole in a wall on 27 October. The Arabic language caption of the video translated into English reads, “Praise to Allah! There is nothing wrong with the girl. She was playing and came out of the house’s [wall]. She is not in Gaza, [but in] Syria. Please do not post videos of her saying that they show her stuck under the rubble. There is nothing wrong with her, thank God.”

Tahaqaq, a Palestinian outlet for fact-checking and a member of the Arab Fact-Checking Network (AFCN) also reported on the video and reached out to the mother of the child. She confirmed to the outlet that the girl is safe and not from Gaza but is living in Syria with her family.

Thus, Soch Fact Check verified that this particular video is not from Gaza. Although  multiple evidence of similar situations exists, showing Israel’s war in Gaza, this video is not one of them.

Virality

The misleading video received 375.3k views, 14,000 likes and 10,000 reposts. The archived versions can be seen here and here.

It was also shared here and here on Facebook and here and here on Instagram.

Conclusion: The video showing a child trapped under rubble due to Israeli bombardments is not from Gaza, Palestine. The video is actually from Syria and shows a little girl peeking  through a hole in the wall in her house.
