Claim: A viral image shows that Kababjees Group has inaugurated a new university called the ‘Kababjees University of Engineering and Technology’.

Fact: The image is fake, and likely AI-generated.

Fact or Fiction?

The viral image shows a university building in the background with a large sign that reads “Kababjees University of Engineering and Technology”.

Most captions accompanying the image said, “After kababjees cola kababjees express kababjees bakers kababjees fried chicken.”

Kababjees Group has expanded within the food industry in Karachi recently, with a large number of branches opening up in multiple areas of the city within a short span of time. In particular, the expansion followed the consumer boycott of products and fast food chains deemed to be linked to Israel. The group operates multiple divisions, including Kababjees Bakers, Kababjees Fried Chicken, Kababjees Express, Kababjees Pizza, and has also started producing bottled water recently.

Soch Fact Check found that many users shared the post as a joke about Kababjees’ fast expansion, but others seemed to take the image at face-value.

A Google reverse-image search did not yield any news reports about the launch of such a university. There was no mention of such a university on Kababjees’ social media accounts or their official website either.

Since the reverse-image search did not lead to any similar images, Soch Fact Check ran a search to determine whether the image was AI-generated, using a software called ‘Is It AI?’. An analysis of the image in question revealed that it was 71% AI-generated.  For further confirmation, we tested the authenticity of the image with another software, called ‘AIOrNot’, which also found that the image is likely AI-generated.

Virality

The image has been widely shared on social media. It has been shared on Facebook here, here, here, here, and here. It was also shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit here and here, respectively.

Conclusion:

Kababjees has not opened up a university in Pakistan. The image circulating online is likely AI-generated, and many social media users also shared it as a humorous take on the company’s recent expansion.
