On 12 January 2024, several posts on X claimed that former journalist Imtiaz Alam is running for the February 2024 general election on PTI’s ticket.

Imtiaz Alam is not contesting elections from the constituency NA-161 Bahawalnagar on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s ticket. He serves as the Secretary General at the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) and is also a columnist and news anchor.
Alam uploaded a post on X on 13 January 2024, clarifying that he is running for the election on the Haqooq-e-Khalq Party’s ticket. In the post, he is pictured submitting the ticket for HKP’s symbol – the loudspeaker.
The president of HKP, Farooq Tariq, also shared a post on X clarifying that Alam is contesting from HKP’s ticket and that news regarding his candidacy with PTI is false. His post also includes a 26-second clip of Alam speaking to the media on this matter.
On a WhatsApp group with journalists, socialist activists and lawyers, Alam also shared a clarification himself, highlighting that he is contesting the election on HKP’s ticket and not PTI’s.
